Seeing the greeting this morning was pleasant.
I hope she and others in our group each had a joyful Christmas.
I had been thinking about her and her comment that this month's book would be expensive to obtain and for such a short book not worth the expense. I miss hearing her comments on books and would like to propose that we allow her to select our next book. It would be great having her back on board sharing her thoughts on our read.

Thank you for your kind words, Shirley. They warm my heart. I'd love to be more active in this bookclub, once in a while. but the choice of books has to be worth it for me. I've become very picky about the things I spend time on, as I'm sure all of you will understand.
This Christmas I am enjoying the fact that we're all together, safe and sound. Anything else doesn't really matter to me now!
Shirley, I hope that you are finding a way to get through this christmas time after the loss of your beloved son. and maybe you will find new ways to enjoy it even.

That's also fine for me if Margreet picks. I didn't even vote for my own suggestion! They all sounded so good.
Margreet, my husband's grandfather is from Groningen, Netherlands. He came here in 1928, and he was very proud of his Dutch heritage. I've heard it is beautiful there.
We made it through our first Christmas without my oldest son. It had some teary moments, but there were also many happy memories and new happy times. I decorated the tree with Brendan's ornaments remembering the love shared by those who had given them to him. I also made the 2008 family calendar using quotes that he had enjoyed as well as quotes from people about him. My youngest son was the Ghost of Things Yet to Come in our community theatre's production of Scrooge. In the program, he dedicated his acting career to Brendan. Seeing the produciton three times (it sold out quickly or we probably would have seen it more) was also a morale booster.
Shelley, that's so cool that your husband's family is from Groningen. That's my town! I went to school there, and lived there as a student for 10 years. It's also where I met Granita, and we spent a whole day walking the town, reminiscing for me, and 'being a tourist' for her. I still love Groningen a lot!
Shirley, thank you for sharing with us how you spent your xmas, with all the good memories of your son.
