Een Schitterend Gebrek

The original Dutch title of our February book is: Een Schitterend Gebrek.
It means: A Magnificent Handicap. Now my question is: Why is the book titled this way?

Perhaps Lucia's handicap can be considered "magnificent" since she opted to leave her life as a servant's daughter and become a sought after mysterious/magnificent courtesan. She truly made lemonade from lemons.

Could the Dutch title mean that Lucia's "handicap" became something "magnificent" that did not handicap her at all? It was Lucia herself who made the decision to give up her love, right?

I think you may be onto something, Shirley, but I'll have to think about it a bit more.
