Although I finished Cold Comfort Farm, I don't know if I have poor reading skills or if the answers to my two main mental questions were unanswered. My questions were:
- What was the nasty thing seen in the outhouse?
- Why was the family obligated to Flora?

I'm with you on that one. All I can figure is that that is part of the humor of the book. I did think it was funny when Flora and Aunt Ada are speaking quietly about what was owed to Flora, and we think we're going to find out, and then all we hear is "So, did the goat die?" My other thought is that she was trying to make the point that it doesn't matter what nasty things we may have seen "in the woodshed", we need to just get over it and move on. Or maybe I missed something too!
