Your schedule looks good, Marylyn. Thank you for doing it.

Marylyn, I hadn't thought about counting the number of posts by each person, as you mentioned in the "getting started" post about Suite Francaise, where you wrote: "I counted all your blogs and Oh My I don’t know how you have keep up this long."

If you have accepted the invitation to become a book buddy, you don't have to go through the whole blog to see how many each person has posted. Go to the "New Post" page, then click on "Edit Posts," and you will see all the behind-the-scenes information about our blog. On the left is a list of every label we have added to every post, so look for our names. I was surprised to see how many posts (not comments, but posts) each of us has written:

Alison = 10
Bonnie = 133
Jo = 11
Marg = 11
Margreet = 18
Marylyn = 7
Neco (Jennifer or Anne) = 22
Shirley = 56
Toby = 16
Zorro = 15

That's all we have who have posted more than ten times. (Marylyn's on the list anyway, because she is taking on a leadership role this month.) I guess this really DOES tell us who is active here, doesn't it?

Zorro = 15, even though she didn't arrive until March.

Margreet = 18, even though she gave up on us in February and says she won't be back.

Toby = 16, even though she's only posted once since February.

Jo = 11, even though only one was posted this year.

Thanks to all the buddies who are at least TRYING to make this book club work.

I am planning on getting SF as an audiobook with my August credit at Audible.com.

I am now reading Warlock by Wilbur Smity and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

I recently finished The Same Different as Me and Oscar Wao.

Hola ya'll

Didn't make it to the library today so I'll be picking up SF on Monday. Killer headache that didn't go away even with meds for most of the day so my errands were left unran. Napped with hubbie after he got home from work and headache was gone when I woke up. So productivity since then. Too hot this summer, too many afternoon storms.

Schedule looks great, Marylyn! I am assuming (since August starts on a Friday) that each Friday we can start discussing that week's reading, Bonnie?

Going to go make a JTB post now so I can move on to reading the next section. I'm determined to have the book done by the end of the month (hopefully it gets returned to the library when I go on Monday).

Okay, but this was still an interesting exercise, looking at how many times we BBs have posted.

i've got Suite Francaise on hold at the library and should be able to pick it up next week!

Toby said...

Hi Bonnie & others!! That's strange Bonnie. You didn't get my post in response to you about this group this month??? I also posted at Essencia Island, because I hadn't read the last book, except a few chapters, so didn't feel that I should post here. Well, I'm sorry,in general for not posting more. Been reading the posts.

Toby said...

Okay, I think I may have solved the problem. If my post didn't show up, it might be, can't remember now, because I clicked on preview, but saw my message, & didn't see the post message. That just happened now. I had to go back to bb's main page then click on the posts again under this topic to see the link for post message. This Blogger site doesn't make any sense. The post this message should be on the same page. I think I'll just post messages & please excuse any typing mistakes as I make a whole lot of them.

I've been a bit busy lately as my dog has been going through a bad time & last week, had to be rushed through thunderstorms threats & heavy rains to the Vet. Well, at least she got a shower, provided by mother nature.:) I would have picked any book that was about an animal. However, this book sounds really good, so I just downloaded the sample chapters on my Amazon Kindle to see if I like the book enough to read. If I do get the book, I'll be breaking my rule as to not buy any more books until I finish reading the books that I am currently reading. Oh well, rules are made to be broken. :)

Where's Caboose? Is she still here?

Bonnie Jacobs said...

Toby, how do you like your Kindle? It looks like the best reader I've seen, but I'm waiting to see what kind of "staying power" it has.

Bonnie Jacobs said...

No, Caboose had a storm that knocked out her computer recently, so she is currently computer-less and wanting a laptop for portability. On doing the exercise on who's been posting, I discovered Caboose had NEVER posted and had only COMMENTED. If you click on the label "Caboose" or go here:

http://bookbuddies3.blogspot.com/search/label/Caboose

you'll see that every POST labeled "Caboose" is one I posted after she left COMMENTS. For example, take a look at the earliest, the one that shows her little red caboose bobbing along, and you'll see that I posted it:

http://bookbuddies3.blogspot.com/2007/09/guess-whos-on-way.html

The last time she COMMENTED on any of the books we've read was last November.

She HAS posted over at Essencia Island, however, so maybe she'll do it here when she gets her new computer.

Bonnie, buy the Kindle. It is fantastic!!!!! I have hundreds of books that I want to buy. What I do is download the free sample chapters of many books. I read them & if like what I read, I write down the name in a journal, so I can order them some day in the future. Then, I delete it from the Kindle. I can get many free sF books - from Amazon & Tor & many free book sites & guides that I put on my Kindle & I can download them anyhere. I can buy from the Amazon's site anywhere. I belong to KindleKorner at the Yahoos's group & I read the discussions at the Kindle page. For non-Amazon sites, you download Mobipocket Reader & plug in to computer to download. The download is so fast, you don't think it's happened. It's that fast. You can get a refund on a book that you don't like in a week. You can get credited if the price goes down in a book if within a month. The prices are cheaper than the Sony Reader, which is 1 reason I wanted the Kindle. The Kindle came out, I think on Nov. 19. Sold out in 5 hours. Then until April, you had to put your name on a list & wait for 5 weeks to get it. Now, the price dropped from 399 to 359 in 6 months time. Battery last without the EVDO about a week. Oh Amazon Daily is a free Blog. Very interesting - food, gadgets, etc. I know that it is expensive, but for me, I never get to a bookstore or a library, so the price is less on books than ordering from Amazon, another dealer on Amazon or someplace else & then paying for shipping, & thne waiting for maybe 2 weeks & by then you are already half way through the book & discussing it & I can't join in & if I read, which I do, the lovely comments, I read all the spoilers. Okay, it's late & I can can go on & on & on about the Kindle, but have to say 1 more thing. I take it everywhere in my handbag & it's easy to use. My father got one & he's really computer illiterate, he loves it. Go to Amazon. Type in Kindle or click on link on home page. Read all about it. Any questions, feel free to ask me.

Toby said...

Thanks for telling me about Caboose, Bonnie. Glad she's okay. Sorry about her computer. Oh, & sorry about writing a book about the Kindle. LOL! Yikes, it's a long paragraph. It gave me a chuckle to see how much I wrote.

Jennifer said...

Toby, thanks for the "book" on the Kindle. It was interesting reading. I think I'd want one if I traveled more. Currently, I get most of my books from the library (free!). I think the Gutenberg Project lets you download in a format that works on Kindles (not completely sure). But they offer free full-text of public domain books (classics and academic stuff mostly).

Jennifer said...

Bonnie, your comment about the statistics of the posts got me thinking (I love statistics about stuff!). I debated posting a comment or post about the rank of the books we've read together so far based on the number of posts about each (minus the discussion questions posts, perhaps).

Jennifer said...

I just picked up Suite Francaise at the library tonight!

Toby said...

neco, you're welcome!! Many free book sites. I like Feedbooks & some other guides that I just update the latest books right on my Kindle. Yes, most free books are classics, but if you like science fiction, there are some free ones that are free for a limited time & recently, an author put 3 thriller series books that were free. My father read these books & really liked them. I do think that more & more authors will be offering their books for free to let the public see if they can hook the readers to buy more of their books. You can also read magazines & newspapers & blogs. Some people were able to browse the web & some were able to send/read email. I just think of this as Jeff Bezos of Amazon thinks, that this is just another form to read books on. I love Anne of Green Gables & was able to download a few of those books for free. BTW, there is a current book on what happened before Green Gables or what Anne's parents were like. I was going to suggest this book first for this group to read. I read the sample chapters & it's really good. The author is an award winner from Canada. Then, there is another book that I think this group might like to read. Necco, I'm glad you like the library. I have many fond memories of reading books from the library when I was younger. Plus, I had a job working in my college medical library while going to school. They had a case where you could put your used books to trade with other books. I enjoyed that so much, er a little too much. So much for studying Oh, & did I tell you that you can enlarge the words on the page to make it easier to read? LOL! Toby

Bonnie Jacobs said...

Being able to enlarge the print may be the selling point as Baby Boomers age (I was born six years too early to be a Boomer). Aging eyes need help with small print!

Jennifer said...

Toby, again a great info-filled post to read. Thanks! Totally nominated the prequel for Anne of Green Gable. I read a ton of L. M. Montgomery books when I was young. I'd be very interested in reading that with the BBs and it would be totally nostalgic too. Also, you went to med school? What do you do now?

Toby said...

Thanks necco, that would be great. I'll have to check out the name & author to give here, but I think it's called Before Green Gables. It's late,bed time, so I'll try to remember to check tomorrow.I read the sample chapters & tonight decided to get this months selection on my Kindle. Yes, Bonnie, it's great for aging eyes & also, if you are reading in near darkness,as the sun is going down, I might enlarge the print size. I've done thatwhile reading outside. E-ink also doesn't tire/strain your eyes, like the computer. The only thing Kindle isn't the best on is if you have a book with a lot of graphics, because sometimes the graphics or a map show up very small on the page. I did this with 1 book, knowing that, because the book cost less & I would have to find a place to put the book, & the Kindle would prbably take up less room in my handbag than the book. I figured that if I really loved the book that much, I could also get the paperback version. I did that for A New Earth. I have that on my Sony ebook. Someone had mentioned that they had the Sony Ebook, but still liked real books. I do too, but alot of people, in the forums, had commented on the Kindle ebook, that you tend to read faster & tend to read more books. Also, if you have problems with your hands, you don't have to hold it open like a paperback or have a heavy book to hold. LOL! I wrote another book. Glad you don't mind. If you do, just let me know.

Neco - became a Dietetic Tech. after studying dental assisting & psychology. Studied both the clinical- diseases/food & the management side/running a kitchen, as in a hospital, or other institution. (I used to work in that library at the college/dorm - attached to a hospital.) Didn't get a nutrition job right away,(then wrote a nutrition column for a newspaper & did advertising), so went into the legal field - doing Real Estate Title Research for too many years for my father's & brother's law firm. Currently, working in that said office as my brother bosses me around. I am in charge of scanning all the files from the time my grandfather worked there. (I come from lawyers on both my father's & mother's side.)There are hundreds of files & they keep coming. LOL! I also shred files, burn discs,& more. Really boring job, but I can daydream! Right now, my brother's got me answering the phones for 2 weeks. That's another story. That's me. I'm all over the place, jobwise.

Toby, thanks for sharing about your schooling and career. I don't know very much about some of you here. I went to pharmacy school so it's always nice to met someone in a medical field.

Bonnie Jacobs said...

Neco, it sounds like its time for us to do a round of "Getting to know you," so I'll put up a post about it.

Hola Ellen

You're the first fellow pharmacist I've met online!

Hola Bonnie

Thanks for doing that. I don't know too much about prolly more than half of the BBs. I've been wanting to be nosy and ask.
