1. I liked Skeeter and the maids who agreed to be interviewed in spite of the risk they took in doing so. Skeeter's determination in doing the story especially at a time when not only our society was racist, but also sexist. I also was impressed with Aibileen for helping Skeeter and for the love she was able to show the children under her care even though she knew that the love from them only lasted until they reached the age in which their parents' racism dampened the love they had for her. I also admire Minny for her outspokenness in spite of the economic impact this trait had on her.
3. Although the times in which one lives impacts one's character, I think it is impacted more by the specific people who are closest to a person.
4. YES! Minny was justified in her distrust of white people. She was very much aware of the racism that existed and the hatred that whites had of blacks.
5. I think racism is taught. In my life as well as that of my children, the colors of people's skins was viewed only as something like hair color until peers and society made it clear that there are differences with the implication being that whites were superior.
6. I thought Minny's pie was hilarious. However, I would not have been so bold or creative to have pulled such a stunt.
