The Other Side of the Bridge ~ by Mary Lawson

I suggested this book on Tuesday, and several of you seem to like what I posted about it. I have been hesitant about jumping on the very first book mentioned because it does not allow others to suggest anything. Also, people are still arriving and trying to understand how to blog, like Carole (Caboose). She is having a problem with her blogger identity, and I think she has a book to suggest.

Here's what I think we should do:

1. The Other Side of the Bridge by Mary Lawson will be our first book together here; let's label it OSB for consistency.

2. We'll start suggesting books for next time and make a list of them in the sidebar.

3. About two weeks before time for a new book choice, we'll take a vote and see what should be next.

4. In the meantime, I'll outline a reading schedule for this book -- which I have NOT read yet, or even looked at -- so give me time.

5. Seeing requests for a schedule and questions before I even pick up the book is scary; put yourself in my position and think about it.

6. I'll have some questions ready about a week into our reading; maybe I'll be lucky and find discussion questions online, though usually those are for book clubs who have already completed the book by the time they discuss it.

7. As my various online discussion groups have done before, we'll talk about three or four sections of the book, after the group has had time to read that part.

What do you think? Do we have a consensus on this plan? Carole, I think you can make comments, can't you? Let me hear some discussion about my plan, everybuddy.

~~~ Bonnie
I think it sounds like a good plan, Bonnie. If we were to take too long deciding on a book, we might not get to read in October (the horrors!). I don't think anyone is reading Essencia Island's October selection (can't get on the Oprah boards consistently, not interested in the selection, etc.) and I've really enjoyed reading with a book club these past 6 months or so. Sense of (a chatty) community and book discussions! (Which, for me, previously only happened in coffee houses/indie bookstores in the movies.) So, I'm happy we have an October selection. I'll look for it at B&N when I go to pick up the Sunday NYT in the morning (I got bookstore gift card for my birthday ! Awesomeness! Cause it's like free books!)
OSB sounds like a good book from the post I have read. At the moment I am bogged down with two books not finished yet, plus two other projects I have to clear off the calendar this month. Will lurk in the background and speak up with opinions. Eager for lots of chatter on the new site, and Thank you Bonnie for all the work you have done to bring us all together again.
Bonnie,
Considering I have read this book already, if I can offer any help with schedules, questions, etc, just ask! Actually, I have discussion questions for this book. I will email them to you.
Sounds like a good plan to me! I hope to have my book from the library sometime this week so that I can join in. I finished The Tenth Circle yesterday and should finish The Bishop's Daughter in a few days.
I ordered the book, should be here by the end of this week. In the meantime I am reading Harry Potter, the first book. I have the whole series now in hardcover, to read in sequence. Great books to get your mind off 'stuff'...
I will try and get the book this week.
Margreet, you and I are on the same quest. I am reading the Harry Potter series also. I am on book 3 and I am really enjoying them.
Last night I decided to purchase this book as an ebook,on my new Sony Reader (digital), so that I could start reading today. I love this book so far! Frankly, I did not expect it to be so good. I am so glad that Bonnie picked this book.It's the type of book that is really hard to put down.
Thanks Toby!
I picked up OSB yesterday on my way to the bank and grocery. I also found the book Nicholas Sparks wrote about traveling about the world with his brother that Bonnie reviewed on Book around the World in the bargain section for $6.
Good to see the pink ribbon Kristina. Hope all Book Buddies get their mammograms. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October. I have my mammogram done on my birthday as a gift to Carole
How are you Caboose? I'm getting my mammogram tomorrow at a hospital that is around an hour away. It's the hospital that Dr. Susan Love used to work at here in the East, USA. As always I dread either getting the one & only incompetant tech if she is still there (the others are great) or just plain hurting. I'm such a baby. Well, at least it will be over. :) My Dr. also has the same last name as mine, but we are not related.
I'm not sure I have this blog thing figured out. I can't seem to figure out how to read things in sequential order - any hints? And I forget to come here, just now see you've picked the first book and I should have already read the first chapters, yikes! So I am behind. My library has the book, but it will take a few days for me to get a copy and start reading, so I guess I'll be a week behind. If anyone has any tips for how I can best keep up with the blog, please let me know. Or email me at scamper@chartertn.net. Thanks!!
