FB ~ Ch. 4 ~ Mexico

Prepared by Mary/Zorro

Flood damage in 2010 in Angangueo, Michoacan, Mexico.
We read about the flood in Angangueo, Michoacan, in Ch. 4.   There are a number of videos on YouTube of the flood in 2010 in this small mountain village of the monarchs.   Josephina and her family lost everything in the flood and moved to Tennessee.

Thank you for posting the video clips adding "realness" to the book. The gentle spirit of Josephina and her family was a touching introduction to them and the fact that the re-routing of the butterflies was a sign of something that was awry with the migration. Quite a coincidence that they wound up relocating to the same area where the butterflies now migrated to.

The catastrophe that happened to Josephine and her family was tragic; my thoughts rest with the families who were not so fortunate. The government did not come in with loans for those people to rebuild, the danger of disease and death was unbelievable to the remaining family.

4. Talk about the characters names—Dellarobia, Preston, Cordelia, Dovey, Ovid Byron, Cub, Bear, Hester. How does the author's choice of nomenclature suit her characters? When you first meet these characters, including Pastor Bobby, what were your first impressions? Were your notions about them challenged as the story progressed?

With the names of the characters, I just call Dellarabia Della, Dovey DOVE, Ovid Byron BO like body odor. Hester is just Hester. Nomenclature is a word I needed to look up with pronunciation. In fact, many words in this book were words I needed to look up either for speech or meaning. Pastor Bobby seems like a likeable pastor so far to me someone you might feel comfortable talking to, sharing your person thoughts. I was shocked when Hester broke down and cried in front of Della. What does other Book Buddy think about the names?
